One thing we need to hope for with Ultion is that the prices are not screwed down online like they are with some locks. Brisant has always used “locks for locksmiths” as there slogan. That’s locks for locksmiths to make money on though as well as them being locksmith friendly. Some of the top quality anti snaps are so hard to sell to customers now due to them being sold so cheaply online and sometimes cheaper than we can buy them from trade suppliers! This means we can’t make a mark up on the locks at all and when you give a customer a price including labour they run a mile claiming they can get the lock themselves at half the price! Lets hope this doesn’t happen to Ultion!

Locks such as front door ‘Yale’ type locks do not have key numbers due to being mass-produced. Also many cheap locks and imported furniture do not have key numbers, as they are imported and distributed at minimum costs not allowing for after market key service.
Underneath the key sit 6 pins. Each of these pins have specific jobs, there are 2 steel anti drill pins, 3 brass mushroom anti-pick pins, and one anti-bump. But then, above the key Ultion is housing a further 5 pins – creating an astonishing 294,000 key combinations.

With Ultion the keys are as sophisticated as the locks – a high security lock deserves a high security key – all Ultion Keys are coded and as the manufacture holds the codes only they or their designated exclusive suppliers such as us can furnish you with extras – your local guy cannot cut them.
When it detects attack, a hidden lock within the Ultion automatically engages, so that even when snapped twice nothing gets past it. Leaving a key on the inside of the lock won’t affect its performance either.

We all need to make a stand against this rapidly increasing problem! I like to give as much information to help educate people on the importance of security and I feel that hiding such details and then charging a payment for my knowledge can be just as bad as the person committing the robbery, when in fact most of the knowledge can be common sense.
The Brisant Ultion has finally achieved TS007 3 star and sold secure diamond standard. As far as I’m aware there is only one other lock which has achieved sold secure diamond and that’s the Avocet ABS. Both the ABS and the Ultion were designed by Steve Stewart so that’s quite an achievement being the only person to ever design a lock that has got through the diamond test. Since there’s only the Ultion and ABS that have managed to get the Sold Secure Diamond accreditation this post will be a little bit of a comparison between the two locks.
The most talked differences are the type of plastic; ABS and PBT. In general, PBT is seen as superior over ABS keycaps, because it’s stiffer, durable (just don’t hit it with a hammer), stays true in color and doesn’t develop a shine effect over time. Take a look at your keyboard, most likely you’ll find some glossy keys.
Most locks have 5 or 6 'pins' in them. One of the ways that Ultion delivers its unique protection is by using 11 pins. this makes 294,970 different combinations of key. Banks only specify 100,000 combinations, so with Ultion you get almost 3 times the level of security required by banks for their keys!
Any attempt at forced entry will immediately see the Ultion go into ‘Lockdown Mode’ where a protected attack lock activates directly into the central cam, something you won’t get with any instant access lock.

All recognised Ultion Key Centres have a license number. You can validate the registration code by using a simple checking tool. Enter the registration code and we will confirm whether it is a valid license number and who it is registered to.
I have been fortunate enough to see the Brisant Ultion quite a lot at different stages of the design process and have tested quite a lot with Steve, snapping, bumping and picking so I know quite a lot about the lock. Although I know Steve this is a completely impartial review based on what I’ve and learned as I’ve seen the lock being developed. When I first ever met Steve he told me about his plans to make “locks for locksmiths” and make Brisants full range of locks locksmith friendly. The aim was to make good quality locks that were easier for local locksmiths to stock and pin up themselves. They seem to have definitely achieved this but the only thing missing was a top of the range cylinder 3 star cylinder, until now!

We do not expect customers old or new to order a new front door just to get a handful of key caps or rings – but when the doors ae as good as our door range is its always worth considering – a quick visit to web site might just be the temtation you need superb styles and colours security and increased themal insulation guaranteed and masses of accessories including of course the above caps and Rings.
In a lot of cases the format and style of a key code/number will tell us the type of key you require. However in some cases we may need some additional information to select the correct key for you. Please take note of further details such as lock manufacturer (Can be found on the item of furniture, lock face, spare key or a colleagues key) and what the lock is fitted to (i.e. Metal Filing Cabinet).
We know how important it is that you always have a lock to suit every eventuality, but equally important is the overwhelming amount of cash tied up in van stock. That’s why Ultion has a clever dual-colour design – cutting the amount of stock you need in half. And then, by putting the unbeaten security features in both sides of the lock you halve your stock again not having to buy and carry ‘handed’ anti-snap locks.
If a homeowner is burgled as a result of their Ultion cylinder lock being snapped, they will get £1,000 compensation. All homeowners have to do is register their Ultion by completing a form on www.ultion-lock.co.uk. The guarantee is completely free.
In the same way as all Brisant locks, you can manipulate, build, switch, and duplicate Ultion locks on site. You don’t have to make return visit when you have fetched or even ordered the right lock. Ultion is as friendly to the locksmith as it nasty to the intruder.
From the snapping tests I have done on this lock it performs just as good as Avocet ABS. Both have a sacrificial cut about 10mm back from the front of the lock, both have a second pre determined sacrificial section right in front of the cam. Both lock the cam once the cylinder is broken on the second sacrificial part blocking access to the gearbox. So from a snapping point of view they both offer exactly the same levels of security.
The Ultion is a dimple lock but doesn’t come with a key registration card. The key number is stamped onto the key head instead. Like all of the Brisant range of locks the Ultion is a non handed dual colour lock meaning its very easy to stock. According to Steve it means carrying 75% less stock than the Avocet ABS. Meaning a burglar will not only have to drill through the first two in the sacrificial section of the cylinder, but then, if they want to snap the lock, they'll have to try and drill through 8 more anti-drill pins.

Remember, not to tell us about the handing or the colour – it doesn’t matter!
The Ultion lock has been tested to the needs of the British Standard TS007 3 star standard, without having to be bolstered with an expensive high security handle. When Ultion is locked it is the actual center cam that gets independantly secured, not secured to the internal plug – this means that even when the key is left on the inside of the lock, Ultion is still secure.
If you don’t have a key number, but you still have an existing key we may still be able to help. You should take a clear and clean photo of your key and email us for us to confirm if we can decode and make you a copy without the original.
